Overview Video "What's a Broadie?"
CHALLENGE
The Broad Institute, one of the world's leading scientific/medical research facilities,
received a record-breaking multi-million dollar grant from its namesake philanthropists,
Eli and Edythe Broad. The Broad wanted a video to play at the multi-media press event
that announced the grant, and to live on their website…a video that captured the unique
culture and capabilities of the Broad.
SOLUTION
Rather than shoot b-roll of test tubes and lab coats, this video focused on the people
of the Broad...and they in turn, focused on the viewer, by talking directly to the camera.
A unique double teleprompter system was used so that the on-camera subjects looked directly
into the lens and saw their interviewer, which created an intimate relationship with the
camera, and by extension, the viewer. BLUE WAVE developed compelling sound-bite
interviews to draw passionate responses from the speakers and wove these sound-bites
into a moving story.
